Stein Halvorsen Arkitekter won the competition of drawing the Aja Sami center in 2007.
Aja Sami center is a construction created based on the deep knowledge and understanding of the Sami culture, traditional building structures, and the arctic climate. Knowledge gained after working on a wide range of projects in the Northern region – such as the Sami parliament and Tana Courthouse.
The building is created of the understanding and conditions of the ground. For our architects, these elements are used as a source of inspiration. The landscape is used to create a public space to gather the inhabitants to establish a deeper connection to their culture and heritage.
