Tromsø Fire Station marks the beginning of Stakkvollveien! This building is thought to be the signature of the area and mark the beginning of a new architectonic view. The fire station stretches from Kullkransving all the way to university. The building is adapting to the land and natural environment, using the space to communicate the importance of this construction.
It is of importance to use the land and its features to construct a new fire station. The sloping ground makes it natural to place the garage and similar functions at the lower level towards Stakkvollveien. This side is facing the fjord and mountains. The façade is created using huge gates in glass to expose the fire trucks. The top floor is used to allocate the fire service, reception, preventive department, administration, bedrooms, and gym. This floor is covered with orange plastic sheet cladding to transform the building to an architectonic signal in the city space. The same color scheme is used both in the interior and the exterior.
