Ringerike Tingrett(Ringerike Courthouse) is located downtown Hønefoss on the corner of Bloms gate and Nordrehovs gate. The courthouse appears robust and strong in the cityscape – as a signal building. It is shaped like a square with rounded corners, and the façade is constructed using bricks. The building is formed around an inner Japanese inspired atrium where a chestnut tree is growing large. Offices and the public areas are both facing towards this space – it is thought of as a room for the silence of the mind. The atrium is opening towards the entrance, this way the arriving guests are greeted by a lush green room. The atrium will also be visible from the entrance of all the courtrooms located on the 1st floor – you can have a quick gaze on stillness before entering a room formed by its seriousness.
Offices, general functions, ceremony rooms are all placed on the ground floor of the building. Like the petals of a flower, most of the offices are stretching towards the atrium and natural light.
