NEDRE ROMERIKE COURTHOUSE
In Romerike the courthouse, city hall and the police station are all situated outside the city center. By developing these areas and transforming the buildings into more modern constructions, Romerike will be seen as an urban area. Which again will lead more people to grow an interest in the area and later settle here. Today the buildings appear futile from the main road.
When developing a new courthouse, later possible a new police station and city hall, it will become a great success to move the buildings closer to the road. An intimacy will be created , and the public houses will be seen as a part of Lillestrøm. The extensions of the Courthouse will stretch towards the road and pull people to the building. It is obvious where the entrance is located, and it will be uncomplicated to move towards the space. The extension is a new building situated next to the existing. An open space between the buildings will appear as strong as a line cut with an axe. This is a space where visitors can move. And the floors, especially the third floor where the courtrooms are located, will be a part of this space – the façade will create an illusion of stretching the floors down to the ground.
The public square will be defined by a wall situated at the north end, and the façade of the new building. The walls of the buildings will be constructed using robust tiling. This will not just create an illusion of an important building, but also create a new city inside the city. The space created is as important as the construction itself.
A “bridge” constructed in glass will bring the existing and new building together. This element will also be a symbol of the seriousness you are entering when leaving the building.
The parking space will be moved underneath the building to create more space to the extension. the basement for the new building will be parking for employers and service cars.
Between the existing and new building, a descending ramp for service cars/cars for arrests will be situated. Detainees can easily be moved to the court halls from the basement using protected elevators and staircases.
the main support system of the existing building is 6×6 m, the 2nd floor is constructed lower. 2nd floor is there for suitable for offices, but not court rooms. Court rooms and functions for the public will be situated in the new building where construction of the ceiling will be higher. The square will be moved inside by open spaces laid out over the floors. By creating these open spaces on each floor, there will also be room for secluded spaces outside each court room.
