GJØVIK TINGHUS

Gjøvik Courthouse is a result of an architectural competition won in 2005. The participation was completed in collaboration with Ski Gjøvik AS.

The Courthouse is situated in the crossing between Strandgaten and Jernbanegaten, with a spectacular view over Mjøsa and the local protected park. Nature, especially the park, is reflected throughout the building. It is stretched through the large vestibule, and further into the facilities in the courthouse. The galleries in the administrative section are seen as balconies overlooking the communal spaces.

All the courts are placed on the level as the ground floor, but the whole building is risen up about 1m above the ground to avoid issues caused by passing people looking in. the space for the guests opens up towards the lush park.
